Kristin Brown is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Columbia College Chicago. Kristin earned her Bachelor’s of Arts in 2015 and is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. While in college, Kristin earned five Emmy nominations for her work as a producer covering the Ferguson and Baltimore unrest in 2014, respectively.

Kristin became a City Bureau investigative reporter in 2016. During her time at City Bureau, Kristin worked as a Real Chi Youth mentor, leading a team of six ambitious journalists to creating a database of Chicago youth killed by police over a span of four years. Kristin co-produced a video and wrote an accompanying article detailing the findings. Kristin also investigated Chicago’s response to mental health crisis calls and published the findings of her report in a SouthSide Weekly publication.

In February 2020, Kristin was chosen as one of six community design apprentices to tackle the issue of food and racial inequities within communities in the St. Louis Promise Zone. Kristin wrote a moving letter to the community, helped created an end of program CDAP video and managed the budget exclusively over the course of nine months.

In November 2021, Kristin was chosen as one of twelve fellows for the WePower Chisholm’s Chair Fellowship designed to support Black and Latinx women along their public leadership development journey as they explore and consider pursuing publicly elected and appointed office.

In addition to all of this, Kristin worked as a special education teacher for six years. After leaving education, Kristin became a licensed insurance claims adjuster where she continues to work in the catastrophe insurance industry.
